B1.2 Interactive Exercises
The second stage of B1: Dativ/Genitiv relative clauses, clauses of time and purpose, infinitives with zu, the connectors weil/deshalb/obwohl and Konjunktiv II.
B1.2 Exercises: Subordinate Clauses and Konjunktiv
You are at the second stage of B1: you now build your sentences not from short fragments but from connected structures. With relative clauses you add detail to nouns (der Mann, der dort wartet); with clauses of time, purpose, condition and concession you give reasons for your thoughts: wenn for a condition, obwohl for something that happens even though it was not expected. With indirect questions you strike a more polite tone, with infinitive constructions with zu you express intention and purpose (Ich versuche, Deutsch zu lernen), and with connecting adverbs you keep the flow between sentences. Konjunktiv II lets you express wishes, requests and unreal situations.
Because the exercises go topic by topic, you settle each structure one at a time. As soon as you mark your answer, an explanation appears: why it is correct, or where the mistake is; that way sentence structure and connectors quickly fall into place. This section was designed especially for students consolidating B1 and preparing for the Goethe-Zertifikat B1 or telc Deutsch B1 exam, because in these exams the use of subordinate clauses and Konjunktiv directly affects both the writing and the speaking score.
