B2.1 German Exercises: Passiv, Prepositions and Connectors

B2.1 is your first stage at this level, and the place where the structures that make your German feel truly "competent" come into play. First you practise the two faces of the Passiv: the Vorgangspassiv, which puts the action itself in the foreground (Das Haus wird gebaut), and the Zustandspassiv, which describes the resulting state (Das Haus ist gebaut). Then come verb, adjective and noun structures built with the right preposition; the Genitiv and prepositions of time; Partizip I and II used like adjectives; the da- and wo- compounds that form questions and references (worüber, darüber); and advanced connectors such as sofern, soweit and zumal. They all feed into each other and take your sentences to B2 level.

You can start with any topic and set the order yourself. When you answer a question, you see the result immediately and get a short explanation of why it is correct or incorrect, so you reinforce not just the answer but the rule itself. These exercises are especially useful for students who have just moved up to B2 and for those preparing for the Goethe-Zertifikat B2 and telc Deutsch B2 exams. Work at your own pace, go back to the topics you find weak and turn B2.1 into a solid foundation.
