German Complaint Letter Exercise (B1–B2)

A complaint letter has to do two things at once: describe objectively what happened and say clearly what you want. This exercise matches sentences to the parts of the letter, then practises tone and the polite request with Konjunktiv II.

The part most often left out is the demand: the problem is described and then the letter ends. The explanations in the exercise show how to word demands such as Umtausch, Rückerstattung or Preisminderung and why giving a date matters.
