A2.2 — Exercises on Verbs, Tenses and Comparison

This is the second stage of A2: on the foundation you laid in A2.1, you add all sides of the verb and the timeline. First you go deeper into verbs — modal verbs, separable and reflexive verbs, verbs that take the Dativ, and uses with two objects such as "Gib mir das Buch". You give directions with the imperative and make polite requests with Konjunktiv II ("Könnten Sie mir helfen?"). Then you widen the timeline: the Präteritum in narratives and for sein/haben/modal verbs, and Futur I for the future. The stage ends with Komparativ and Superlativ, where you compare adjectives and adverbs — "schneller", "am schnellsten".

You choose the topic: you don't have to move on before a structure has sunk in. After every answer a short explanation appears — if it is correct, why it is correct; if it is incorrect, which rule applies. That way you learn whether to say war or hatte in the Präteritum, or the irregular forms of the Komparativ, through their logic rather than by rote. It is a perfect fit for anyone who wants to consolidate level A2 and for those preparing for the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 and telc Deutsch A2.
