Perfekt II (besucht, aufgestanden, telefoniert)
At A1 you learnt haben/sein and ge-…-t/ge-…-en. Now the hard part begins: verbs with the prefixes be-/ver-/er- and verbs ending in -ieren have no ge- (besucht, telefoniert), in separable verbs ge- goes in the middle (aufgestanden), verbs like passieren and bleiben take sein, and in the Satzklammer the Partizip always comes last. All exercise content is in German.
Recognise: match the infinitive with its Partizip II. Careful: which ones have no ge-?
Matched: 0 / 10Perfekt II – Partizip forms without ge-, separable verbs and the Satzklammer
At A1 you built the skeleton of the Perfekt: haben/sein + Partizip II. At A2 the verbs that really cause trouble are added to it. Verbs with the prefixes be-, ver-, er- and verbs ending in -ieren take no ge- (besucht, verstanden, telefoniert); in separable verbs ge- goes between the prefix and the stem (aufgestanden, eingekauft, angerufen). Verbs such as passieren, bleiben, werden and umziehen also need sein.
This exercise has five steps: match, choose the ge- rule, find haben/sein for the tricky verbs, weed out sentences that break the Satzklammer and write the Partizip yourself. Each answer is followed by a short explanation of the rule. In the writing and speaking parts of the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 and telc Deutsch A2, this is exactly where most points are lost.
