A1 · PERSONALPRONOMEN AKKUSATIV
German Personal Pronouns in the Akkusativ (mich, dich, ihn …): A1 Exercises

In a German sentence, when a person is not the one "doing" but the one affected, you use an accusative pronoun: the person the action falls on directly. You can think of English "me, you, him". In "Ich liebe dich" (I love you), "dich" is you. "Er sieht mich" means "He sees me". These small but very frequent words are mich (me), dich (you), ihn (him/it – masculine), sie (her/it – feminine), es (it – neuter), uns (us), euch (you – plural) and sie (them).

📌
Golden rule: Akkusativ personal pronouns mark the object: ich→mich, du→dich, er→ihn, wir→uns; "Ich sehe ihn."

On this page you try out which pronoun to choose inside real sentences. When you answer a question you see the result at once: if it is right you learn why, and if it is wrong a short explanation tells you which pronoun is needed, so you fix the mistake on the spot. In particular, the mix-up between "ihn" (him) and "sie" (her) is cleared up through examples. Suitable for beginners and for anyone preparing for the Goethe-Zertifikat A1: Start Deutsch 1. As these pronouns settle, you will find it much easier to talk about objects like "you", "him" and "us".
