Saying What You Like with "gern": German A1 Exercises

To say in German that you enjoy doing something, you only need one small word: "gern". You conjugate the verb and then add "gern". So "Ich spiele Fußball" (I play football) becomes "Ich spiele gern Fußball" (I like playing football). One more example: "Ich trinke gern Kaffee" (I like drinking coffee). As you can see, "gern" usually comes straight after the verb and adds the meaning "gladly, with pleasure". Very simple, but useful all the time in everyday conversation.
