A1 · AKKUSATIV ARTIKEL
Accusative Article Exercises (A1): den, die, das, einen, eine, ein

When you say in German whom or what you see, have or like, the object goes into the accusative. The good news: only the article of masculine nouns changes; feminine and neuter ones stay the same. With the definite article, der becomes den: "Ich sehe den Mann" (I see the man). But "die Frau" and "das Kind" do not change at all. With the indefinite article, ein becomes einen: "Ich habe einen Hund" (I have a dog), while "eine Tasche" and "ein Auto" stay the same.

📌
Golden rule: In the Akkusativ only the masculine article changes: der → den; die, das and the plural stay the same.

On this page you reinforce the rule by choosing the right article for each gap. After every answer a short explanation appears: why it is correct, or which article should have been used instead. That way the question "Why den but die?" becomes clear. Seeing again and again that the masculine noun changes while feminine and neuter stay the same makes the topic stick. For anyone preparing for the Goethe-Zertifikat A1: Start Deutsch 1, accusative articles are one of the core basics. Practise without pressure until the structure feels secure.
