B1.1 · Adjektivdeklination

Adjektivdeklination (after the definite article: -e / -en)

After the definite article (weak declension) the adjective takes only two endings: -e → Nominativ singular + Akkusativ feminine/neuter; -en → everywhere else (masculine Akk., all of the Dativ, all of the plural). All exercise content is in German.

Recognise: match the article type and case with the example that fits. All three declension types together.

B1 · ADJEKTIVDEKLINATION
German Adjective Endings (Adjektivdeklination)

The ending an adjective takes depends on gender, case and the article in front of it. The logic comes down to one question: the more information the article gives, the less work the adjective has to do.

📌
Golden rule: After the definite article the adjective usually takes -e or -en; with no article, the adjective takes over the article's job: guter Wein, kaltes Wasser.

This page practises declension after the definite article (weak declension) step by step and shows, after every mistake, which ending the case and gender require. Useful for the writing part of Goethe and telc B1, and for the Sprachbausteine (language elements) part of telc.
