Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to prepare for the YDS?
It depends on your starting level and target score. From a solid B2 level, a target of 65–70 can be reached in 8–12 weeks; from B1, reaching the same target can take 4–6 months. In our first meeting I assess your level and give you a personal estimate of the time you will need.
Can I start from zero and go straight into YDS preparation?
No. The YDS is an advanced (C1–C2) academic exam; you need a foundation in German before beginning exam-specific preparation. You first need to work through A1, A2 and B1 on a solid foundation, then prepare specifically for the YDS. We can plan this process together.
What is the difference between the YDS and YÖKDİL?
The YDS is based on general academic texts and vocabulary. YÖKDİL (the Foreign Language Examination for Higher Education Institutions), by contrast, is held separately for the social sciences, health sciences and natural sciences, and its texts are subject-specific. For academic applications, most institutions accept both exams.
Are lessons online or face to face?
Lessons are mostly held online (Zoom / Google Meet). Materials are shared before each lesson and study assignments are sent afterwards. Requests for face-to-face lessons are discussed and considered individually.
Are there group lessons or one-to-one lessons?
There are both one-to-one private lessons and small-group classes. In the one-to-one programme, pace and content are entirely tailored to you; the group programme is more affordable. You can state your preference on the registration form.
