About Rede-Meister

In formal and written German, especially in the news, what someone else said is usually reported with Konjunktiv I: Er sagt, er sei krank. Each question shows a direct quote, the indirect sentence with a gap and its English meaning, and you choose the Konjunktiv form this kind of reporting calls for from four options. The wrong options are mostly real German forms, such as the Indikativ or a Konjunktiv II that isn’t needed, and the note after each answer explains the right form and names typical wrong ones.

B1 practices third-person singular Konjunktiv I forms (sei, habe, komme, könne): most are the stem + -e with no vowel change, and sein is irregular. B2 covers the sie plural, where Konjunktiv I usually looks like the Indikativ, so the Konjunktiv II substitute (kämen, hätten) or würde + infinitive is used. C1 practices the past (habe/sei + Partizip II), indirect questions with ob and question words, and requests with solle. There is also a Mixed level. A round has up to 10 questions, and you have 3 lives. The game is free, needs no account and keeps your progress in your browser.
