About Konjunktionen-Meister

German conjunctions and conjunctive adverbs connect ideas, and their type and position affect where the verb goes. Coordinating conjunctions such as und, aber and denn do not change the word order, so in a statement the verb stays in second position; subordinating conjunctions such as weil, dass and obwohl send the conjugated verb to the end; when a conjunctive adverb such as deshalb or trotzdem comes first, the verb follows it, before the subject. In each question you see a German sentence with a gap and its English translation, and you choose the right word from four options. After every answer a short note explains the meaning, the usage or the word order.

Choose A2 (basic conjunctions), B1 (conjunctive adverbs and more subordinating conjunctions), B2 (nuances and two-part conjunctions such as weder … noch) or a mixed round. A round has up to 10 questions, and you have 3 lives. The game is free, needs no account and keeps your progress in your browser.
