Put the mixed-up words in the right German order. Practice word order (Wortstellung), one of the key topics in German, through play: is the verb in second position, or at the end of a subordinate clause?
Tap a word → it’s added to the sentence. Put it in the wrong place? Tap the word above and it goes back. Each round has up to 10 sentences.
German word order follows clear rules: in a main-clause statement the conjugated verb is in second position, modal verbs and the Perfekt send the infinitive or participle to the end, and in subordinate clauses with dass, weil, ob or wenn the conjugated verb normally goes to the end. In this game you see an English sentence and a set of mixed-up German words. Tap the words in the right order, then check your sentence. If it is wrong, you see the correct sentence and a short tip about the word order rule behind it.
Choose A1 (simple statements and questions), A2 (modal verbs, Perfekt, separable verbs, first dass and wenn clauses) or B1 (more subordinate clauses, passive, zu + infinitive). A round has up to 10 sentences, and you have 3 lives. The game is free, needs no account and keeps your progress in your browser.
